Chaim Freiberg and Israel share the same birth year—1948. “As a teenager, my mother escaped the Nazis in Poland and came to Palestine (before it became Israel) with several of her peers. She lost the rest of her family in Poland,” he recalls. His mother’s extraordinary courage brought four sons—all proud Israeli sabras—into the world.
As a longtime, passionate Hadassah supporter, Chaim believes in the power of strengthening the organization’s support of life-saving work in Israel and around the world. “They provide critical medical and social services to so many,” he shares. His love of country never waned after moving to New York City in his 20s and studying at the renowned Juilliard School of Music. “I lived in New York City over 50 years, but will always consider myself an Israeli,” he declares proudly.
While enjoying a distinguished 42-year career teaching piano and voice at the Kaufman Music Center and performing in the city and around the world, Chaim developed a close professional and personal friendship with New York City Opera singer Arlene Kempner in the 1980s. They performed together at two major Hadassah fundraising events, inspiring him to intensify his support for Hadassah.
Since moving to St. Petersburg, Florida, in 2019 to pursue his lifelong interest in writing, this now-prolific author of historical fiction, children’s books and poetry is thriving. “I’m completing my fourth book to be published soon by St. Petersburg Press,” he says.
By establishing charitable gift annuities (CGAs) with Hadassah, Chaim supports initiatives that are close to his heart and central to his identity, while ensuring his financial security. “It’s not a question of wealth—where there’s a will, there’s a way,” he asserts. “If your heart goes out to Israel like mine does, you should explore CGAs.”
